Different rooms need different lighting. Here is how we approach the most common spaces.
Layered lighting is the rule. Recessed cans for general light, pendants over the island, under-cabinet strips for task light, and dimmers on everything so you can shift the mood from morning coffee to dinner with guests.
Warm layers do the work. A central fixture or ceiling fan with light, wall sconces or floor lamps for ambient layers, and accent lighting for artwork. Dimmers make the room flexible for movie nights, family time, or hosting.
